2026 Australian and Oceania Modern Pentathlon & Obstacle Laser Run Championships & ACT Tetrathlon Championships

Modern Pentathlon Australia is excited to announce the 2026 Australian and Oceania Pentathlon and Obstacle Laser Run Championships and ACT Tetrathlon Championships, taking place at The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, ACT.
This action-packed championship weekend has something for athletes of all abilities.
COMPETITION PROGRAM: 
IMPORTANT: Pentathlon & Tetrathlon events will run concurrently - Tetrathlon consists of Swimming, Obstacle and Laser Run. International ranking points will not be issued for the Oceania Championship events.
COMPETITION FORMAT & TECHNICAL DETAILS
The competition will be conducted according to the UIPM Competition Rules and Equipment Regulations HERE.
Pentathlon Championships include age categories U17, U19, Junior, Senior and Masters.
Tetrathlon Championships include age categories U13, U15, U17, U19, Junior, Senior and Masters.
Obstacle Laser Run Championships include age categories U13, U15, U17, U19, Junior, Senior and Masters.
Ticket options:
You can enter the Australian Championships, the Oceania Championships or both (discount applies if you enter both events as a package). When you purchase a ticket, you will be asked to nominate which age category you wish to compete in.
Athletes can only compete in the Pentathlon or Tetrathlon event not both. The Obstacle Laser Run can be entered as a standalone event or in addition to the Pentathlon or Tetrathlon.
Please ensure you check the membership requirements below if you wish to be eligible for a medal or Championship title.
INTERNATIONAL ENTRIES - please email the forms included in the event invitaion letter (below) to development@modernpentathlon.org.au Modern Pentathlon Australia will then send an invoice to your national federation for the event entry. If you are bringing your own Laser Pistol into Canberra, you MUST apply for an import permit as soon as possible. The import permit application can be found HERE.
IMPORTANT: Membership requirements
Modern Pentathlon Australia and its State Associations offer a range of membership categories.

Trialist memberships are available for as little as $10 for 3 months and are designed to encourage participation for people new to the sport. Trialist members are not eligible to medal in national or regional championship events. You are only eligible to be a trialist member once. To upgrade from a trialist membership, contact your State Association or MPA.

Full athlete membership covers you for 12 months and ensures you are eligible for medals and Championship titles in Australian and Oceania Championship events.

We need your help! This event cannot run without volunteer assistance from our wonderful community of athletes, parents, friends and supporters. To ensure the day runs smoothly, please put your hand up to help out by registering for a Volunteer ticket. If you are not already an MPA member, please register as a 'Stay In Touch' member to access this ticket.
By volunteering for at least one hour on the day, you will receive a $10 discount code which can be applied against event entries in 2027 (for you, your child or someone else you nominate).
