Course Overview

Why do the course?

Gain confidence and improve your skills as an official.

Candidates who successfully complete the Level 1 course and who gain practical experience by officiating at other MPA/State Association events will be able to work towards obtaining International (UIPM Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 certification.)

MPA intends to host a Level 2 and Level 3 International Judges certification program in Canberra in November 2026.

Candidates who achieve International Level 3 certification may be invited to officiate at international UIPM events (including events to be held in Australia in the lead up to Brisbane 2032) and possibly the 2032 Olympic Games.

What does the course cover?

The course will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of officiating for:

  • Swimming

  • Laser-Run (laser pistol shooting + running)

  • Obstacle Course Racing

  • Biathle & Triathle

There will be some pre-course reading to ensure you are familiar with the UIPM competition rules before arrival.  Theoretical aspects will be covered on the evening of Friday 20 February, with a short exam on Saturday morning, then it’s out to the field of play with the remainder of the course spent putting theory into practice during the Australian Tetrathlon Championships & Multisport Event.  Saturday afternoon will focus on the Obstacle Course Racing, and Sunday morning on the swimming and laser run disciplines, with the event expected to wrap up mid-afternoon on Sunday 22 Feb.
